Sharing a bit about my Bday Trip! 🚀🥳💦

This summer I traveled to Europe ( Switzerland, Sardinia and a bit of France) to celebrate my birthday.

It was a trip full of movement, stimuli, challenges, changing landscapes, adaptations, wonder, and travel by various modes of transportation (plane, train, bus, car, ferry, funicular!). It had been a long time (pre-pandemic and even before) since I was on the move this much during a trip!

There’s so much to tell that this newsletter wouldn’t cover it all, but I wanted to share some of the somatic practices and other explorations that were fundamental for me.

A key practice for regulating my nervous system and staying grounded amidst the movement was:

THE BACK BODY PRACTICE

It’s a practice that, although I had intuitively done before, I learned from Manuela Mischke-Reeds in one of her wonderful classes I took this year as part of a somatic certification. It involves bringing awareness to the entire back of the body, beginning to really feel it. Feel the muscles, the bones, the entire length from the skull to the coccyx and down the back of the legs. At first, it might seem odd to bring and hold awareness there, but if you give it a chance, a sense of support, solidity, and protection begins to appear. Like an embodied: "I've got your back!". It’s being able to rest in your own body while absorbing and feeling all the sensations that move through and around you. I felt like I was in a mobile home as I moved from place to place.

Of course, another practice was JOURNALING! This time I chose one of the latest journals published in purple, Thrive in Your Uniqueness, in hard cover because I liked the feeling of it. It seemed symbolic, appreciating the uniqueness that brought me here and reflecting how the trip was planned, following an inner intuition, like a unique and authentic thread.

The end of the trip was in Sardinia. An island I find magical and truly love! And as you may know, it’s one of the Blue Zones. Just stepping onto the island makes you feel relaxed! It was my second time on the island, and both times I felt something similar as soon as I arrived!

This time, my partner and I, enjoyed spending more time on the beach, in the water. The water is crystal clear, turquoise with bluish hues. So another exploration I did was experimenting with releasing weight into the water while floating, and also being fully present in the water to imprint the pleasurable sensation into my system.

Often, we become more obsessed with unpleasant sensations (trying to block them, avoid them, etc.) and when we are in a pleasurable sensation, we might not take the time to slow down and ground that experience at a cellular level. So, this was another exploration I wanted to share: Giving ourselves the time to enjoy and imprint pleasurable experiences on a cellular level. This creates greater resilience and is a practice you can do daily. Take a moment to connect with your memories of these experiences and allow the body’s memory to imprint more deeply at the cellular level.
